In 1963 the Okinawa Goju-Ryu Shobukan was founded by Master Masanobu Shinjo.  Shinjo – Sensei was a direct student of Master Yagi, a Ju-Dan (10th Degree), Master of Okinawa Goju-Ryu and a direct student and disciple of Goju-Ryu’s founder, Chojun Miyagi.  Master Yagi stated that Shinjo’s performance of kata was closer to Master Chojun Miyagi’s than any other Goju-Ryu practitioner.
Since its founding, the Shobukan organization now has authentic certified dojos around the world, including: Japan, Canada, South America, Europe, India, South Africa and the USA.
The USA Shobukan is strong with dojos in 8 states.  All dojos are overseen by Kanchos, appointed directly from its founder Masanobu Shinjo and now his son, Masashi Shinjo.  These Kanchos make up the Board of Directors of the USA Shobukan and are licensed to teach the Traditional Style of Okinawa Goju-Ryu as developed by its founder, Master Chojun Miyagi.  The Kanchos make all organizational decisions within the country.
All questions about the organization, its dojos and instructors can be directed to any of the Kanchos listed within this website.
